Ok, I have had this 96' Sunfire for 8 years now. Have an Optima yellow top D34 for practically the whole time. I'm running 4gauge power back to a 2.4 farad cap, from the cap I have 2 amps coming off the positive post of the cap. The 3 grounds are all in the trunk. The 2 subs on the 2 channel amp and the 2 component systems and 2 6x9s on the 4 channel amp.
Everything ran fine for years, added power windows to my car:
Ran the 12 gauge power and ground wires straight to the battery, power wire has a fuse. Put the motors in the doors, ran those + and - to the switches, switches to the 1 power 1 ground to the battery.
That all ran fine for the next few years, then I just recently added keyless entry:
Hooked those up, actuators and all...ran those positive negatives straight from the battery as well, split them each into three for the lock. unlock and power to the unit. Everything ran fine there also for about a week....then all the trouble hit.
I think it's just power problem and I know I have way too many wires directly connected to the battery. So my question is
In your opinion what is the BEST way to wire up - My capacitor, 2 amps, automatic locks, and power windows?
The power locks stopped working, then a couple days later, the 4 channel audiobahn I was using for the 2 component systems and 2 6x9s stopped working as well.
Maybe it's all just a coincidence I don't know.
Coincidence. Or wiring fault.
You cannot have "too many wires" coming from a battery etc.
Your battery may simply be at end of life.
What is its open circuit voltage (after removing surface charge - eg headlights on for 5-15 minutes)?
PS - keyless entry like alarms etc will have some drain current.
Thanks for the info. Turns out the a6004t took a dump and the control unit for the securtiy system was trash! $45 NextGeneration was what it was. Just gonna get a better contol unit and hook up the actuators, get another amp...cleaned up a lot of the wires though. Thanks for the Speedy resonse man. Helped a lot.
BTW, I did get a 2 amp charger from my friend and charge it over night. I'm sure it helped...positive it didn't hurt. =P
Take it easy
