98 Ford Ranger problem

Hi!  I have a 98 ford ranger sport and I recently installed a sony xplod head unit to replace my factory unit (no cd/cassette, just radio)  I bought a wiring harness and it plugged right in and wired up the unit.  My problem is that I have no illumination in my console (speedo, warning lights) and my taillights do not work  (they work when braking but not when headlights are just on).  what do I need to do to make this work?  I checked the fuses and none are blown. The unit lights up fine and works well, sound is excellent, it is just the light problem.  thanks.  please emaill @ fishstikxlax@aol.com 

Have you tried to put the factory player back in and see if the lights on the dash are still not coming on ? Also check to see if the fuses in the engine ( if you have )  are good.
