i have always used a 9 volt battery (pp3) to test all (unknown speaker circuits). when connected the speaker will swark and tell if (right rear), (left front). the 9 volt battery will not damage the speaker. (must not be connected to amplifier). (this is a speaker test only). make sure only speaker

So much easier to flash the constant 12v+ while holding the other speaker to ground, easier than carrying around batteries, incidentally the old 12volt alarm remote batteries work better.
