So I got an idea that i think might work. But i thought i ask before attempting it. Here is what i was thinking....Running a power wire with a few resistance inline to lower the current and taking the other end and attaching it to the far end of the metal part of the wipers. I figured the current would complete its circuit by going to the ground of the other end where the wiper arm is bolted down, thus heating it up.

Why?

Not that a small current will heat the arm anyhow.
And for the high current required, you would need an earth strap to prevent welding.

Surprisingly enough heated wipers are avalible, and not to costly.  Used mostly on big rigs, but now fit many applications.

LOL - I forget, I just open my bonnet (front hinged).

You need a heating wire or assembly, normal wiper metalics would be unsuitable.

You can also buy heaters for the screen wash to achieve the same, but just running the front demister for about 5 mins. usually does the trick.

Come to think of it since most (front) wiper motors are in the engine bay what's the point?

To think that heated fluid used to crack windscreens....

Now it seems they only crack when hot with cold water - but having a small initial crack helps. Maybe I'll convert to coolant or other fluids...

I had an older guy come into the shop asking me my thoughts on his invention...He was in the process of hot-rodding a hair dryer to defrost the window... He had an elaborate vent system,etc...When i mentioned that this probably would not do well in the retail market...He asked "well,What do you do when your windshield is frozen/frosted"...I replied...Press my remote start button twice...! But not to stop your inventive juices from flowing...Now that you know they exist...Make them better...Then you will have something...! oldspark ...its ok as long as it is the front hinge right...?

LOL!
Front hinge is ok... until about 80-100kph, then it can flap a bit high.
But a limited can fix that - maybe the old chain (Patent Pending) I used to the gearbox to stop the fan coring the radiator on sudden stops.

It amazes me what gets Patented. Crap which isn't new, or is public, or simply won't be enforceable.
12V hairdriers for demisters are common here (for older cars).
230V hair driers less so - they just use the inverter heat instead...

But reinvention occurs all the time.
At least these days it's easy to see what has already been done... thanks to the internet. posted_image posted_image posted_image posted_image
