Hi all,

I installed a flip down monitor in my Honda Odyssey where the dome light used to be. The monitor includes a 'dome' light that I'd like to connect to the original dome light wiring.

Don't want to cut off the connector so I'm hoping to find the male connector to plug into the existing female connector. Can anyone tell me what this type of connector is called and where I can find a male part?

Thanks

Not sure how you would look that up..? If it is the wire in the car , i would guess the dealer or junk-yard would have it...? You could always just peel back some of the insulation and make your connections there... leaving the harness in-tact...!  Is that the harness that plugs in to the "old" dome light...? Maybe you could use the portion from the dome-light and modify it to work for you(although thats alot of work)...

hi,
take the dome light assembly with you to a car audio shop. ask if they have any old adapter harnesses for radios lying around...i know i do. see if you can find a male terminal pigtail that matches the dome light terminal in thickness and width. remove terminal pigtail from housing, repeat twice...choose colors close to the Honda's colors, if lucky. use heat shrink or tubing to insulate the unprotected portion of the terminal. glue the three terminals together, hot glue is my favorite. make connections to the aftermarket overhead unit.

Might you want something like...

That's 2.54mm pitch (0.1"); there is also a 3.96mm version (~0.15").

They are common in PCs - eg, 2, 3 & 4 pin cooling fans.

EG - From Jaycar here, here & here (4-pin(sic) pictured).

PS - not modifying the existing wiring - priceless! (Long term - the extra trouble for translator interface wiring can be IMO well worth it!)

Don't cut the connector off - splice in to the wire 3" back from the connector.

Thanks oldspark and everyone else that posted. Splicing is the last resort. I've managed to install the monitor without making any irreversible mods to the van so I'm hoping to continue that.

I'll check out Jaycar for that connector oldspark.

They are probably cheaper from scrap PCs or discarded fans....

Try computer shops etc.

There are also strips of "header pins" that can be used, eg:

Desolder the socket from the old domelight.  Solder wires to the socket.  If you ever need to reinstall the original light, reverse the process.

Guess... problem solved...! Yeah...I guess sometimes i just need to step back and think outside the box(or the shop in this case)...Doing this as an install...The last thing we would have time to do is look-up/order that part...But thats what you're here for ...eyyyy...?

The domelight mod was what i was getting at in the post...Guess i just wasnt specific enough...HOW ARE YOU...?

Oh...BTW...Stripping the insulation back is far from irreversible...But sounds like you have a gameplan now...!

Sorry Tommy, I did not catch the part where you suggested that.  I have been doing well.  I have been working way harder than usual.  I have not been doing many repairs.  I have a new duty at work.  Managing the store is really not my cup of tea, but somebody has to do it.
