Hello all :

I have a large project ahead of me and I want your opinions ( good and not so good ). This is going into my personal company vehicle ( also my pride and joy posted_image  1992 Acura Integra GS-R ) So what I need from the forum members is any type of criticism about what I'm trying to do here and if you know that it won't work, please let me know and I'll see what is feasible:

Components I want to install ( some are already purchased others are not yet purchased )

  • Xtant  X1001D
  • Xtant 121
  • Xtant 604
  • Audio Control EQT ( 3 of them )
  • Audio Control 4XS
  • ( 3  of these bad boys ) Boston Acoustics 12.5 LF 4 ohms subwoofers ( 12 " SVC )
  • Alpine CVA 1005
  • Alpine CHA-S624 Changer
  • Alpine DVA 5200
  • Alpine SPX-177a 6 1/2" Component speakers
  • Alpine 5 1/4 " Spearkers ( rear )
  • ( 2 ) Alpine 8 " subwoofers
  • 2 farad digital capacitor

Here's what I plan on doing for the installation part:

  • Use the Xtant 1001 to power the 3 Boston Acoustics subwoofers and run the subs in parallel and bridge the amp to power all three subs ( ???? ) I think the load would be about 1.6 ohms from the subs so I hope that the amp will be able to run this without too much trouble
  • Use the Xtant 604 to power the 4 speakers front and rear
  • Use the Xtant 121 to power the ( 2 ) Alpine XR subwoofers.

I would like to set up the system so that everything is remote operated via my Alpine 8063 alarm system with the 8 EXT expansion module. I want to be able to have an SPL and a SQ set up . The 3 subwoofers , EQT's ( 1 ) and the Xtant 1001 will be the SPL part of the system while the ( 2 ) EQT's, Xtant 604, Xtant 121 and the 4 speakers and the ( 2 ) subs will be the SQ portion of the install.

I will wrap everything in a combination of painted fiberglass, vinyl and carpet with neon string highlights. The front staeg will be in custom built kick pods and the rears as well ( I hope ) and the monitor and DVD will be in the front heater vent and OEM stereo location . The changer will go in the glove box and the rest will install into the trunk area ( again I hope it will fit properly ). I f I have to loose the rear seat, I will to accomodate the equipment and the install but if i can I will try to fit everything in the trunk area and still have passenger room in the rear.

Sorry for the lengthy post but if you've read to this point, what do you think ?? Thanks in advance.

Jeff, I'm not a big fan of neon. I wouldn't do it in my car, but your are building a demo car with your own vehicle so I can understand why. It's just not my taste.

I'd just ditch the idea of having a backseat. This would give you alot of room to show off your gear and custom fabrication work. Besides.....all that gear + Dynamat (right?) + 3 passengers = alot of weight in your car and your engine won't be happy, especially a Japanese 4 banger. My Toyota truck hates me when I load up the bed or have a full cab.

I like the SPL/SQ dual system idea. That's cool. It'll be great for competition and make it very easy to sell a wide variety of potential customers. I've seen way to many demo cars that are either SPL or SQ, but almost never both.

Have you considered doing any motorized racks? Maybe the EQT's on a scissor rack with an actuator. You could store them stacked, then scissor them out from hiding. This could be a good space saver in addition to being a major customizing point.

Good luck on your project.  Post some pics when you can I'd love to see them.

The install sounds great!! I can't wait to see it.

I was just thinking that you might need more than just a 4XS doing all the crossover work.  I think you should have more than one low pass point.  One for SQ and one for SPL they probably shouldn't be the same or one area will suffer.  Your 8s should pick up where the 6.5s leave off and I don't think you want the 12s to be playing the same as the 8s.  The 4XS only have one high pass two bandpass and one low pass.  I would use the 4XS low pass for SQ w/ the 2 EQT'S, then a sub crossover w/ the last EQT.  Maybee consider a line driver also or a sub crossover w/ a hi-volt output if the amp can take it, you wouldn't want to burn up the RCA inputs on the amp.

Let me know what you think and certainly ditch the back seat.  You should try and out do the alpine/ wings west RSX.  I know my goal is to get that good.

I can't wait to see it go down! this should be awesome, I want updates as you go!

On the issue of crossover points - You can probably use the crossovers on the amps as well as the 4XS, so you'll have more points - I've not done a lot of work with xtant personally, but it's great gear, and I beleive you can use separate moidules for crossovers and such. I woudl spend some time and make your custom work really clean, and I would also go nuts with sound dampening. Keep us updated!

Thanks for the advice on the crossover. I was thinking the same thing actually about not having enough control over the entire system seeing that I'm running both SQ and SPL. I have a Phoenix Gold line driver, but like audio Xclusive said, I don't want to burn out the RCA inputs. I think the Xtant's input voltage for the amps are 2 volts ( ??? ) not sure but most likely.

I'm not a huge fan of double crossing my crossover points when it comes to my systems. The reason is that the amplifier xover points are not as wide a variable range as a electronic xover is and therefore wouldn't really help me if I end up crossing over a frequency that the amp is not going to receive. I do like some of the options that some amplifier companies give you with a parametric EQ where I can boost freqeuncies that increase SPL.

I will be posting update pics and descriptions while in the works. I have a general idea of how I'm going to be fitting all the equipment in the car now. I will end up using some motorization for 2 EQT's that will extend from the back seat area to the front between the driver and passenger seat so I can fine tune the system without leaving the front staging area. This is all in my head of course, just have to get it to work in the vehicle. Thanks for all the advice and the support, if you have any other ideas or comments, please feel free to contact me or post your thoughts.

I just recieved the new issue of C A and E.  They featured a hot new product from audio control the 6xs.  It has 6 sets of inputs.  I didn't get to read the whole article but it looks like a great piece and since this is going to be the show car of all show cars I would say go with the latest and greatest.  It may also eliminate the need to used the amplifers crossovers.  I don't like useing them anyway in an all active system.  I would do all the crossover work before the signal gets to the amp and leave the amps on full range.  let the crossover do what it does best and let the amp do what it does best.  Same thing with the EQs.  If the amps have that parametric EQ adjustment to boost freqeuncies that increase SPL thats great but the EQT is going to do a better job of that then any amp option.  Also if you plan on entering competitions create the enclosures for SPL then graph to find what freq. produce the highest SPL, then make a CD that pulses that freq. using a signal generator and a cd burner.

You probably already knew that.  If not or if you want I'll make the CD for you. Just need the to know the freq. you want.

Hey Audio Xclusive; thanks for the tip on the 6XS I will definitely look into this peice for my system, and your right..... "I would say go with the latest and greatest." that's my greatest down fall ( at least my bank account says that posted_image ) I will look into this part and see what they have to offer. I actually did know about the freuency generator and to make an enlcosure for optimum frequency boost, but I will have to do alot of calculating because of the odd shape of the boxes and curvatures of the inside. I should just build a sphere with a small flat spot on top and be done with it posted_image. Again , I thank you for the information about the 6XS and it will probably be in my car by the endof next week !!

Thanks Dan, I hope to have everything installed and comp ready bt the end of August at the latest ( I know, that's the end of the season, but I figured I wanted it done this year even if it means the endof the season ). It will still be just as good at the beginning of next season !

Sounds like a great system in the makings. We have the same problem in our area, no one has a spl/sq double duty type demo. most of the people in this area only care about spl. they have never attended a show that they checked more than just spl. i am just a d-i-y-er with a bit of time in this area, so i dont have alot of helpful hints. but i will try if needed. good luck on the demo!
