does anyone know exactly what a multi function switch is? that is what the mechanic said is wrong with my wifes van?
the turn signal indicators on the dash are acting funny and the traction control system shuts down and the daytime running lights are funny as well.
any and all help would be greatly appreciated

Sounds more like a Body Control Module to me and or a major power supply problem or poor grounds after some body work.
The faults listed are not connected to each other apart from ignition feeds. Traction control has nothing to do with running lights.
1) Check ALL fuses, not visibly but with a DMM set to continuity.
2) Get someone to run diagnostics.
------------- Amateurs assume, don't test and have problems; pros test first. I am not a free install service.
Read the installation manual, do a search here or online for your vehicle wiring before posting.
