I want to install a lighted kill switch to my transmission lock-up convertor.

Right now, hitting the brakes electronically disengages the lock-up.

Below is the switch I want to add to prevent the convertor from locking up at all.

Would this work?

Can you describe EXACTLY what this is for... Did a quick Google search, but just looking for a better description... Thank You!( the locking up convertor, not the switch)

I have a transmission with overdrive. When in OD, the convertor 'locks up' and essentially makes a 5th gear for hwy driving (lowers the rpms for better gas mileage)

The problem is, I'm in 4th gear a lot and it locks up instantly which causes the engine to lug when I'm going 55mph or less. So thats why I want to stop it from locking up until I'm on the hwy doing 60+.

So......

does that seem like it would work?

The brake switch is a normally closed one.. when you apply the brakes it opens the switch and breaks the circuit.

I need a switch that breaks the circuit instead of having to apply the brakes.

I don't want to use a simple interrupt, I need a lighted one...

So....?

Looks good to me... I dislike commenting when i dont fully understand the other "Stuff" that goes with it... IE Transmissions are an Engineering nightmare, or so they say... : ) It reminds of a show i watched on the Transmission... Oy Vey... But, it does appear that your diagram will work as YOU want it to... Hope this helps...

Why is the light of the switch important...? Is it to determine if the switch is engaged or not...? You did the wiring of the first diagram...?

The transmission install shop did the wiring on the first diagram, and it works fine like that. I just want more control over the lock up with a toggle switch.

I like that its lighted so it reminds me that the lock up is 'on'.. plus at night it will be easier to see.

How about coupling this with a vehicle speed dependant switch that is active above 60mph? Then you could potentially have a fully automated solution with no driver input required.

but my car is a carb'd engine with no computer.. can you give details on a switch like that?

Three comments:-
Yes, your diagram is correct.
Tommy, oy vey is my domain (actually mum and dad when they thought we couldn't understand).
Awdeclipse, great idea but I think at least quite a bit of extra circuitry would be required apart from a Hall effect transducer around the speedo cable.

B&M already makes a lockup control module, adjustable speed for lockup too.

I dont run a speedo cable, i have a GPS speedo.

I could run it off the transmission, but that BM setup is very old tech. its totally 80's. lol

Yes but unless you have a Hall effect switch with an electronic speedo, you will have to put a conversion sensor on the existing or original cable to give you electronic pulses. You can't do that with your GPS which incidentally lags on true speed by up to 11 seconds. (distance to nearest 3 GPS satellites averaged out and divided by light speed plus the unit's process speed). You could break the gearbox inside the GPS response time.
