I want to put some fill in my sub box to make it sound bigger.  What would be the best stuff to use for box fill?  I have a bag of polyester batting, would this be any good?

Polyester batting will do the trick

Personally I don’t like the sound you get from a stuffed box. The only time I stuff a box is if the enclosure is too small and I need more volume. But it won’t hurt to try it; you can stuff it and see if you like the sound and if not you can always take it out.

Lining the box won't help your volume but it will help with resonating frequencies.

i asked around and i've only gotten "no" as a response. saying that making the sub thing there is more room is a bad thing when your box is the size of your "normal" ft^3.

anyways, if i try it, ill let you guys know.
