Took a major step towards my future tonight. Just applied for my LLC. I should hear by tomorrow if I now own a business. This will really allow me to take off with my remote start, car audio, etc installs since I will have a backing and will now be able to get insurance as well. This also gets me one stop closer to my final goal of owning my own shop. Feels pretty good.

Now for the shop owners out there, what insurance do you use, what do you like / dislike about it, and if you don't mind can you give me a rough idea what you pay... just trying to get an idea. You can pm me if you aren't comfortable putting it all out there.

Thanks in advance.

Kenny, insurance questions have to be pointed towards the insurance carrier that you choose. Depending on state/provincial laws, you may or may not be able to shop around. If you can, go to various carriers to see who offers the best suited policy for what you need.

You pay according to your needs when it comes to insurance but be careful since you can be charged ALOT for something that you don't necessarily need and not charged enough for what you do. If your like me, the insurance carrier requires the shop to have a monitored security company in place in order to sell me a policy. I added video surveillance for my own peace of mind and if you know how to do your own security, this will help save you money.

I'll have to talk with my agent this week. My situation currently is a little odd ball because I can't take the risk right now of buying an actual shop and going full bore into this so I'm technically a 'traveling' installer. My home garage is zoned residential so legally I can't call it my shop. So I'll have to see what they say.

Sometimes you can rent a Storage Unit and have some more flexibility w/ Insurance. Just a thought...
