I'd like some info about auto accessory port (cigarette lighter) USB chargers. You know, those handy things you plug in, and you get USB power out.

I've gone through several, and I'm curious about how to preserve them. Frustratingly, when mine die, they die as direct shorts, so the auto accessory fuse gets blown. Crapola. With lifetime in mind, are there better and or worse brands? I've heard a rumor that the best way to preserve them is to plug them into your phone BEFORE plugging them in to the outlet. Can't understand why that would be the case. I've heard that some have their own replaceable fuses, which is incrementally easier than replacing an auto fuse.

Clearly, the low amp ones are garbage. You can barely run your phone off of one, much less charge it.

Advice appreciated

It matters how you use your device that you plugin on a regular basis. My question for The12Volt is how can I set-up space in my Car for an infinite power-supply to my favorite device; I am aware that I will tend to keeping it in working-condition! Thank you in advance for the friendly tip!

Have a good one!
