Hi,

I pulled the entire wire harness from my 1983 Toyota Hiace due to a frame off restoration. I want to clean all connectors since they are almost 35 years old and have been left untouched. On some connectors I can visually see some grey/whitish corrosion and thus not a perfect clean brass surface. On youtube I found some videos where people clean connectors using vinegar and baking soda as a neutralizer. I am not fond of this method because there is a chance that the vinegar (acid) will travel up the wire beyond the insulation and the baking soda solution will have no chance of neutralizing anything up there. As a result I feel that I have worsened the problem with that method.

Is there a better way of cleaning (removing corrosion) connectors? I looked at the connectors and it is impossible to remove each one from the plastic housing - I will need to clean while each connector is fixed in its multi connector housing.

Thanks,

Lucas

There are contact cleaners available from RS Components etc.

Amateurs assume, don't test and have problems; pros test first. I am not a free install service.
Read the installation manual, do a search here or online for your vehicle wiring before posting.
