i just instulled a new alternator on my sunfire. when an alternator is running, is it supposed to get farley hot??? i mean, you can touch it for a second or two but then you must let go........is this suppposed to be like that?

It is in the engine bay. Most of everything in there is going to get a bit hot. Depending on how close it is to the manifold, or radiator is how hot the alternator is going to get.
