I suspect I already know the answer to my question, but will ask anyway.

Northern Tools Multimeter - Days short of 1 year old. Yes - Made in China.

Worked fine until this A.M. When I turn it on, I immediately receive a readout of 1666. Sometimes one of the digits will change. No flickering of the digits. This numeric reading remains on the screen as I switch from the various voltage/ohm/amp settings. Have replaced the battery(9V) with 2 new ones - both checked out with another meter. Same result. Turn on the meter and I receive a display of 1666. Pulled fuse - checked with continuity function using another meter - OK.

Contacted Northern Tools tech line. Person I spoke with had no clue.

Again - I think she's dead. Thanks for your time.

Update - I apologize for wasting your time.

The multimeter in question has a Hold Button. I did depressed it earlier, but tried again a short while ago and now the screen has cleared up. The VOM is is functioning as expected.
