Hi, I just purchased a Pioneer AVIC-9 DVD Navigation system and a Pioneer AVD-w8000 8" standalone monitor for my BMW X5. I am located in the Boston, MA area, and have taken it to a few car audio/video shops in the area to get quotes, seems like its in the $700 range. What I would really like to do, is learn how to do the install myself. So...I need someone that knows what they are doing(really knows) and would be willing to come over and do the install together (and teach me), I would even be willing to pay. I also would like ideas for how to mount the screen either above the vents in the center of the dash, or on a removable bracket over the radio, so far this seems like the puzzling part of the equation. Any help would be appreciated. Dave

Sorry I live too far away, but as for an idea on how and where to mount your screen, I would check out Pro Fit custom cell phone hands free mounts. They make their mounts vehicle specific, and they offer one for the X-5 and it has a hidden mounting system that you don't have to put any visible screw holes in your dash. It also mounts at an angle off of the passenger side of the dash angled towards the driver. I have used these hands free mounting kits in a few vehicles to mount external monitors. The install of the Nav system itself shouldn't be that much of a problem, just make sure you have the right wire for the speed sensor. ------------- My mechanic told me, "I couldn't fix your brakes, so I made your horn louder"

Thanx for the reply, I checked out the ProFit Product line, looks preatty good. I just have a few problems...I would like the monitor to be in the center of the dash either "ontop" of the vents, or ontop of radio, hopefully on a detachable mount. Do you think this would work?: https://www.pro-fit-intl.com/ultimount/versatile.html Also, I have no experience at all with car audio stuff, and there seems to be ALOT of wires with the NAV system, do you really think I could do it myself?! That one would work, BUT the point of the brackets being vehicle specific means you don't have to put any screws or screwholes where they are visible, just think about it if you ever wanted to trade that car in and there are 4 screwholes right in top of the dash, can you say MAJOR depreciation? Anyway, the wires that are with your nav system are pretty straightfoward, most are going to have a reverse wire, speed sensor wire, e-brake wire, 12v constant, 12v switched, and ground. Just make sure you get the correct wire for the speed sensor, the manufacturer of your nav system should be able to give you some technical help on locating the correct wire as well as the people here and the vehicle database.
