If I remove the gauge cluster from the dash temporarily..what happens to all my info..IE miles...etc..

I don't want to get into trouble for tampering...But I want to remove the cluster. Does anyone know what the reprocussions are...?

there are no reprocussions.
I've had my gauge cluster out no less than a dozen times, changing gauge faces, running accessory wires, whatever.
The mileage is stored in the ECU NOT the gauge cluster.

when you plug it back in the needles will all flip up to the top and the trip meter will be zero'd thats all.

So what happens if you replace the ecu...? (i.e. a junk yard) Does that leave the mileage were what ever the car it was removed from was at?

where does that leave the mileage...?

Now I am curios..I though all cars had the mileage brain on the back of the cluster.

YOU WILL GET THE MILAGE OF THE NEW ECU THAT YOU PUT IN YOUR CAR. THATS WHY IF YOU WERE TO BUY A SALVAGE BIKE OR CAR THAT THE ECU OR CLUSTER WAS DAMAGED, IT ALWAYS SAYS :EXACT MILAGE UNKNOWN"

Ok, I was going to change the gauge cluster the ecu and some other parts..basically trying to make it look and run a lil more like the svt...I have a buddie that just wrecked his..I want to salvage it....

Is it hard to switch the ecu's...how hard is it to get the bezel out and in...?

any suggestions?
