I need help. I have a dodge grand caravan that I am installing a remote start in. According to the wire layout the starter wire is descibed as the yellow ire. However, my concern is that the yellow wire in the harness is a small gauge. Guessing around 14 to 16 gauage. Smaller that the starter output on the remote start module. I looked at four other diagrams and tested the wire with my logic probe. Is this wire the right one or is there a different one that I should be looking for. Any input is greatly appreciated. ------------- Tony

To test if this wire is correct, use a DMM or light tester and the target wire should register 12 volts ONLY in the CRANK position. There should be not power in the ACCESSORY or the RUN. If this wire test like this, you have the right wire. If not, then you will need to look elswhere because all my notes tell me that it's the YELLOW wire and I've installed into the Caravan's before and they are YELLOW and also ther eis a second starter wire ( PURPLE / brown ) which is a ( - ) output wire.* * The second starter wire is negative trigger thru a 180 ohm resistor. MUST use relay. ------------- Jeff

So the gauge difference from the remote start module and the column harness doesn't matter. if not...then I found the right wire. thank you sir for your help.  ------------- Tony

Gauge difference from the starter unit and the OEM does not matter, yes you are correct. ------------- Jeff

Hey atrevino, Just a few more hints on that 02 Caravan. First of all never use the 12V direct at the main harness but rather go to the BIG WHITE/ RED and BIG PURPLE / RED at the top left of the BCM or to the battery. Secondly, NEVER connect the coil of a relay to the PINK/WHITE ignition wire at the column otherwise the heater or other accessories will not turn on when you do a key take-over after remote starting the vehicle. Also, like Jeff at Velocity said, don't forget to correctly feed the second start wire (PURPLE / BROWN) the 180 OHMS needed. Welcome to the world of databusses!  ------------- Prepare your future. Well, I got the vehicle to start remotely with no problems....however the A/C won't kick on. According to one of the diagrams that I have it states that the A/C is ran by the ignition. Not in this case. I triple checked my connections,pulses and resistance values. Still no clue. Any help would be appreciated. ------------- Tony

There is no ACCESSORY wire needed to be hooked up with this vehicle. If you have the proper IGNITION wires the heater/AC should come on without the ACCESSORY wire from the RS hooked up. ------------- Jeff

Still won't come on. Here's how I got the relay wired; 85- pos trigger, 86- GND, 87- GND, 30-out to starter 2 w/180 OHM resistor. I got the A/C to come on w/o the 180 ohm resistor but it is not consistent. Any suggestions? ------------- Tony

Try wiring your relay in this configuration. You have the resistor in the wrong pin out on the relay .86 - Primary Starter wire, try this relay configuration instead - 87 - Second Starter wire
- 30 - Ground with a 180 ohm resistor inline
- 85 - Second Ignition trigger wire from remote starter ( - ) output only
- 87a - NOT REQUIRED
When activated the relay goes from 87a to 87 where it connects 30 ( resistor wire to ground ) to 87 the second starter wire. ------------- Jeff
