Hello.....

I know it's possible to measure voltage on a car battery using a digital multimeter....but how? Do i just put the negative (black) on the negative terminal and the positive (red) on the positive to my battery? I heard there's a different way to do it?....or i might be thinking about the altenator......sorry if this is a stupid question guys.

Just put your DMM on VDC and then put red to + and black to - and you will get your reading. Just make sure the car isnt running or you'll get your alt. charging and not a accurate battey reading.

ok .....sorry bout the stupid question....that's sounds like it makes sense. I guess it was the testing the altenator with a Digital Multimeter not the battery. How would you actually test the altenator? These questions are embarrasing seeing especially that i'm MECP certified too.

You can only test voltage that the alt is putting out. The easiest way to test it is to take it to an autoparts store and have them do a load test on it.
