I left my damn grommet poker in a car the other day, and I cant find them anywhere anymore. Does anyone know where I can get one online? or if you can get one from your snapon/mac truck i'll pay you for it.  You know what tool im looking for, looks like a screw driver, w/ a hole in the handle, makes it VERY easy to run a wire through the firewall. Any help will be GREATLY appreciated

Thanks,

Eric

hey eric where do you live? you can find those things anywhere, any tool truck carries them, i got mine from Snap-On, its not a snap-on brand but it works great, i got the 2 piece set, one for small wires and the other for bigger wires that will fit 4gauge power wire perfect, i think i paid about $15 for both.   good luck   steve

I couldn't find it on their website but for some reason the part numbers TH-139 and TH-136 seem to ring a bell for the 1 and 2 piece sets..And also as someone else mentioned they are an off-brand not made by snap on. Good luck

Here is the one I use: You can order it from Napa.

Thexton Tools

No. 436
Wire Insertion Tool
For installation of wires or cable through rubber grommets such as those used in firewall or vehicle door. Sharp punch easily pierces thickest grommets. Hole in handle and punch allows for easy feeding of wire through tool and grommet. Use for installation of radios, alarm systems, cellular phones, heavy gauge wiring, etc. Stainless steel sharpened punch with large handle for excellent grip. Vinyl cover keeps tip sharp. Punch design allows hole to re-seal when punch is removed. Reduces risk of damaging wires during installation. Makes pushing light gauge wire through grommets easy. Saves time.

hey are you cheap like me? get a brake line and you can cut it to length. you can also bend it to go around those things that always get in the way.

I just use an old coat hanger, haven't had any trouble yet...  sometimes its hard to pull the wires through but it works well.

I use an old antenna mast with the ball knocked off.. just tape the wire to it and push on thru.. if i'm running a 4awg wire, I'll spray some K&N filter cleaner on it.. that is the slickest stuff I've EVER seen..

Besides, the masts are easy to come by in the shop and don't have to worry about pushing a grommet thru the firewall..

There's a tool made for this? I use a broken test light. I'll have to get one of these things.

When I was installing I had one I bought off the Snap-On truck but I was more likely to grab one of my homemade ones.   One thing I know every installer has lying around..........old power antennas. Work great. Buy some screwdriver handles from Snap-On, MAC etc.. or cannabalize some old or broken screwdrivers. Increase the hole for the antenna mast to fit in the handle about 1/2 way through but do not make it to big as you want the mast to stay and not slip when using it. Drill a slightly smaller hole than that through the top(so the mast does not slide all the way through. Knock the mast into the handle. I put it in about the same way that the Snap-On guy would replace my screwdriver shafts. Take the end of the antenna mast to the grinder and put a 45 on it and then take a small rat tailed file and sharpen it up. These worked so well that I usually ended up making them and selling them to other installers. As another mentioned here brake line also works good and can be cut to any length you need.

I use an old dipstick. I sharpened the end to a point and drilled a small hole a little bit from the end. I use the hold like the eye of a needle for fish the wire through.
