Does anyone know where I can get a few metal and plastic pieces of various size, dipped in chrome around here in IL?????

Call up a motorcycle parts type place that sells to folks with harleys.
They'll have the number for someone who does Chrome-work.
Tell they guy you need light chroming, not heavy. The work they do is usually for bikes so they do a type of Chroming that's made to stand up to road debris.

There are 3 types of chrome in regards to coating things.
the first isn't the type you think. It's not shiny, and has more of an industrial purpose, the second is the type you want, and the third is the type for things like exhaust tips and such that have to withstand heavy abuse

Do you know how much $$$ it may cost for the 2nd and 3rd type of chroming?

just a rough estamate for... lets say a 10" x 10" piece of metal

no idea. it really varies by who does it and where ya are. you're paying for labor as much as for material/process.
