Subject: Passlock II, what is best bypass

I have a 2002 chev silv 1500, I have been reading the posts about bypassing the pass lock II syatem, and have gotten pretty confused.

What is the best, most reliable, method of this?   install resitors?, get a by pass mod? what?

Also I have been tryiny to get the resitance with my DMM but I get nothing . I have a fluke t5-1000.   I have also heard of using voltage readings too.  I can also use advice on how to "remove" PASSLOCK from my truck

I thank you in advance

PS is there any way to take one of those yellow wire I cut and ground it and "reprogram the passlock"

In my opinion the 555L is the best. Some people say pldata is good as well. If you bypass passlock by cutting the yellow wire (not grounding it) then the check engine light will appear and you will have problems, like when the battery is disconnected.

how about this cutting yellow wire taping the engine side into the ornange and re-program passlock as follows:

Antitheft system consists of a hall effect switch in the ignition lock assembly that produces a calibrated voltage signal as the lock cylinder is turned. The voltage signal is used by the ECM antitheft system. If no or incorrect voltage is signaled, the ECM will shut off. When the mechanical ignition switch fails, it must be replaced along with the hall (Passlock) sensor. The system must be programmed after replacing the assembly.

 To reprogram:

1) When trying to start the engine, it will start and stall.

2) Leave the key on for 10 minutes while the “security” light flashes.

3) When it stops flashing, repeat steps 1 and 2 three more times.

put the wires back together, turn the radio off or it will lock, disconnect battery, wait about two minutes, reconnect battery, turn key on until the security light goes out.the door must be closed..

you should not perm bypass this, a simple bypass works fine and wont leave you stranded  have done hundreds of passlock bypasses and used pretty much every brand of bypass the easiest is PLDATA from trilogic mostly because you dont have to cut any wires in truck they are only about 30-35 dollars

555L from d.e.i.    have yet to have one fail/comeback.  what about leaving bypass unit constantly energized? are you trying to make a "push button" starter? hmmm.......just a thought.

DEI 555L bypasses aren't always friendly to other companies products, I have many conflicting issues with this piece and other companies products that deem it uncompatible,   If you really wanted to permantely bypass the passlock, do a search on the web on bypassing passlock systems, there should be a bunch.  Easiest way though, start the truck, cut the yellow wire, passlock light should turn on, measure on the keyside of the yellow wire to passlock ground, usually ORANGE / black or black, with a fluke meter, make sure not to touch the wires with your hands or stand in a water puddle while doing this, trust me it will screw up your measurements, after you have taken one reading do the reverse with the test leads(pos. to yellow, black to black and reverse) once you got the two measurements add the two up and divide by two to get the average, there is your permanent resistance.  THen you attach the resistance to passlock ground and then to BCM side of yellow wire, make sure to get at least the average or above the average, seems to work the best.

Yah, what he said! Although I've never noticed a noticable difference in resistance by switching leads on my meter.

Make sure you use the PL2002A, the old PL2002 doesn't measure as high of a resistance for brand new Chevrolet vehicles, they don't work.  But Automobility does make good bypasses, very reliable product, few flaws but good overall.
