My friend was trying to tell me about  something that he had heard of called gel cell batteries for cars.  Has anyone heard of this and do you know about how much they cost?

Sure Gel cell are spiral fiberglass mats that are filled with and electrolecent gel that hold the charge instead of acid. They are perfect for any audio install cause the can be mounted on its side or even upside down. The more popular is Optima batteries. Most of them run between 109 to 179 depending on what type you want and what size.
