i heard that its complicated and somewhat a pain to get a aftermarket radio into an 03 impala because of the various integrated electronic systems the factory radio is embedded in. is this true? airbags, door chimes, other alarms and warnings all are in the radio. is there any hope for an aftermarket radio if so help me out clear out my mind with the rumors? thanks

Yes, it's not particularly bad. Get Metra's VT-GMRC01. It's a databus interface which has a door chime speaker built in, and supplies a switched power output for your aftermarket radio. Retail is about $62 or so; it plugs right into the factory harness. I've used dozens with no problems on late model GMs, including my own '02 Sunfire.

Also, you might have to get a different adapter than what chris said if you have onstar.
