I am replacing the whole Monsoon POS 200 watt system on my 02 Passat.

The new speakers are 2 pairs of Infinity Kappa's 60.5cs components whereby each will get 70watts rms.

Do I need to replace the stock speaker wires to handle the higher power. I think they're 18 guage.

It would better to replace them, but not necessary if you don't want to run new wires. There is a factory amplifier in vehicle as well that you have to bypass if your wanting to use the existing wiring. Otherwise you can pull the amp out as well.

The factory 8ch 200w amp is coming out. In it's place are 2 Kenwood 4ch bridged to o/p 70w rms to 4 crossovers and then to the factory speaker wires.

You might as well install new wiring seeing that you will have to anyway if you are adding 2 new amplifiers to the speakers. Without the factory amplifier the speakers will not work with the deck.

I'll also be replacing the Monsoon speakers with 60.5cs Infinity Kappa components. The crossovers will be approx where the Monsoon amp was.

Just make sure that the speakers are getting enough power otherwise they will be a disappointment to you. It sounds like you have a good set up....... any plans for a sub ??

Just an Infinity basslink w/ remote level control. Power will be 4ga fused to a dist box where 8 ga will go to each amp. Head unit will be a double din Kenwood dpx-mp4030 am/fm/cd/cass/mp3 player (great specs).
