Electrical Tape

Is there an electrical tape that can be used on the wiring that is near engine heat?  Looking for a tape that will stay stuck to itself and not unwind and leave a slimey residue like vinyl does. 

Its not electrical tape per say, but is metal film covered heat reflective tape.

You can purchase it at any Home Depot, it costs aprox. $6.00 a role.

Please bare in mind, it does not wrap the same way as regular eletrical 3M 33 speed tape.

I use liquid electrical tape for splicing under the hood.

You could also apply standard heat shrink tubing. If you purchase 3M high capacity heat shrink tubing, as the heat increases, the tubing will become harder.

Thanks for the suggestions, but I'm looking for a tape that looks and performs like the  tape I see on factory harnesses.  The stuff looks like friction tape and is difficult to remove when you want to get at a wire inside of it.  Heat shrink tubing would be OK if all ends of the wires were cut to get it on.      

If you wanted to use something a little more hardy, then the standard eletrical tape.

You could use the very same nylon adhesive bandages that they use for Hockey sticks.

The tape is hi strength, and wears well in rough corners. They sell the very same tape in the auto-stores under different names.

But at the end of the day it is the very same thing as Hockey tape. A role costs $0.49 at Walmart, and a role of six for $2.79

You would of course insulate the wire with UL listed electrical tape first, then cover the area with the nylon tape for better resistance to wear.
