I recently redid my whole system and i put a digital top strike cap in there to.  When i go to hook it up it says to hook everthing up to the amp and leave the hot wire off of the cap, then it gave me a resistor to charge the cap before u plug the hot wire up to it.  It says to attach the resistor between the strike cap and the hot wire, then it says to wait until the digital meter reads 12 volts.  When i do this it doesnt even come on is there something else i need to do?

The only reason why a resistor is supplied to charge the capacitor, is so you don't char broil the nice gold connectors on top of the unit...  In no way shape or form, will applying 12VDC to a completely discharged capacitor damage it.,   Hook power up to the capacitor on the capacitor side, and apply voltage on the other end, to devices that your not worried about the spark/arch damaging the brass plated finish.   Or, other methods are using a curcuit breaker type fuse,  hooking it all up, and just flipping the breaker.
