ok, what i am needing to do is power my screen and my dvd player, they both take 12V. my idea was to use the remote line coming from the radio and tap into that once right up front by the radio for the screen power, then once in the back ,by the amp, for the dvd player power...
my question is, would this be ok to do or would one unit be drawing power away from the other two...

OR is there a better way I should get the power...the main thing is that I don't want to have to physically turn of the DVD player and the screen indivdually or have to use a switch or anything...

Just post back whatever here or you can AIM - MrNiceGuy1437...

I would sooner use a relay to power the two devices that you have:

30/40 amp SPDT relay wired like this

  • 85 : GROUND
  • 86 : Switched Ignition source
  • 87 : 12 volt Fused Constant
  • 30 : To the power wires of the devices
  • 87a: NOT USED

i'm not too familiar with relays but is what you are saying that i need is a 30 or 40 amp SPDT relay...or is there something called a 30/40 amp relay... for instance would https://www.radioshack.com/product.asp?catalog%5Fname=CTLG&category%5Fname=CTLG%5F011%5F002%5F013%5F000&product%5fid=275%2D226  that work?

and when running the "30" would i run one wire straight to the DVD and another straigh to the LCD or should i run one to the DVD and splice into that for the LCD...or is there something else i should do...  also would 14 gauge wire be to small to use for all of this or should i use a 12 or 10???

I can't see how many pins the relay has, but if it's a 5 pin relay, then it's the proper one. BUT don't buy from Radio Shack.......... way too expensive. What you can do is have as many devices hooked up to pin 30 as you wish ( as long as the total amperage doesn't exceed 30/40 amp peak ) which you should not have to worry about with only two devices. Use a 15 or 20 amp fuse for the 2 devices and it should suffice.

ok so i got a relay, now the question is...

I've got the remote wire for the ACC turning on the relay, can I use the "30" pin to send a switch back to the amplifier or would the amprage be too high?

What i would do is: Run a wire from the ACC ignition wire. Connect that to pin 85. Run a wire to ground and connect that to pin 86. Run a wire to the battery, put a fuse in line at the battery, connect this to pin 87. Run a single wire up to your LCD, connected to pin 30, and run another wire from the LCD to the DVD player. If your wanting your amp to do the same(power up with key on/acc) youll want to use a 2nd relay and power that seperately... what size amp is it? find out what the current draw is... might be able to use all 3 on the single 30amp relay... but having 2 would be alot more reliable and you would never have a situation where the amp starts drawing too much power and your DVD shuts off or your LCD flickers.. not fun.
