I have a '98 Bonneville and I had the same problem a while ago. Unfortunately, with the radio that  you have, there is no other way to get it working again other than the dealer or a service facility. I took mine to the dealer and he did it for free! They look at the radio and take some info, then they make a phone call and then they are able to get it working. Mine had a code set by the previous owner and he didnt write it down. Once I removed my battery, the radio was inop. Just tell him that you had a battery go dead and you had a code set by the previous owner. Hopefully he will take care of it for you. Even if he charges you, how bad could it be?
