I got these 2 ham radios I’ll be putting in my truck and I’d like to get some expert info on how to go about the wiring.

The radios are fused each with a 3A and I plan to run just one (+) wire from the two radios to a switched power source. I want to do this right but I don’t really want to splice into the ACC wire because it seems like a pain to get to. I also don’t want to just tap a switched fuse already in use, like the radio ACC fuse. In the fuse box, there are some empty spots but don’t know if they’re powered. The manual shows an existing “SPARE” (5A) fuse in the fuse box as well.

So, I want to know if there are any alternate, but still safe/correct ways of doing this… Could you give me some ideas? The truck is 2004 ranger.

Thanks so much for your help
/k

Use your multimeter to find out if they are powered or not. You should be able to find and acc. spot somewhere.

Yep. Guess that's what I'll do. The wires behind the fuse box are a pain to get to in this truck, but if I can find a switched fuse spot, I'll just use one of those 'add-a-fuse units so I don't have to go diggin behind the box. Thanks.
