Can anyone tel me something about Shaved door handles kits? I want to know is it the solonoid that pushed the door out or is there a spring that pushes the door our and the solonoid just opens the handles?

The sol pulls on the rod that opens the door latch. There is also a "popper" that is a basically a spring that pushes the door out.

As auex stated, the solenoid pulls on the latch mechanism to release it. If the doors are aligned properly and you have good weatherstripping around them the pressure from the weatherstrip seals may open the door enough for you. If not they sell the spring loaded assemblies to push the door open further once the latch is tripped open. If you install them yourself, try not to ground the solenoid inside of the door but run a ground wire into the interior. Door hinges offer poor ground paths.

I have 2 accuator from a power door lock if I were to make my own do you think they will work fine and if so is there any way I can build a spring to pop the door open.

The poppers are fairly cheap (maybe under 20 dollars). You may have a difficult time trying to install the accuators in the door. My car didnt have alot of room to work with. Im not sure what kind of car it is or how big the actuators are.

Many cars door pin triggers actually provide enough spring pressure to open the door after the solenid has released the latch. Door lock solenoids most likely will not have enough power to work the handle release mechanism, I used to use trunk release solenoids as they are much stronger and you have more flexable options on mounting due to the cable pull system. ------------- Greg Stoddard

You can make an actuator or solenoid produce more force than it is rated for by using a lever but at a cost of reduced travel. If I have an actuator or solenoid that has 2" of travel and it produces 10lbs of force throughout it's travel then you can make that same actuator or solenoid produce 20lbs of force but at a cost of reduced travel (1") by using levers and different pivot points.

You can make it produce more force but can you make it so it can travel more like open longer with diffrent pivots ect ect. And where can I buy cheap actuator for an amp rack that hase about 6 to 12" travel o simular

Don't forget, actuators push and pull, solenoids just pull. My friend an I actually bought a $25 kit from ebay for automatic door locks, and made it work as a shaved door kit. You can use the inside or outside handle with the kit. We're building our own door poppers, hopefully I'll get the plans up here sometime. Basically 1 spring inside an electrical conduit( w/ a backin), then a rubber stopper/plug on top of the spring. Running a little dowel through the conduit and spring retains the spring.

Don't forget some kind of some emergency release. Local kid was working on his truck, and his boss closed the door, the soleniod wires were inside and the doors and windows were closed. Fun, you bet.
