What would be good ways to connect the little metal leads from resistors, diodes and l.e.d.'s to a wire? I assume solder but how exactly do u solder these leads to a wire of any gauge? Then how do u insulate the bare metal leads ? Shrink tubing, is that the only way? What does everyone here usually do? Thanks

Solder and shrink tube is the best method. The result is a more reliable and durable method.

I'm guessing that your would put the shrink tubing over the entire resistor to make sure the leads are entirely covered?

Also though how exactly do you solder the leads which are stiffer then the more flexible wire?

Strip about 1 inch of insulation off the wire and wrap it around the diode's wire ends. Solder them in place and cover all exposed wire/solder with heat shrink. If needed you can also use electrical tape to insulate the exposed wire sections. The purpose of the heat shrink and tape is to insulate the exposed wires so they don't short out. Don't skimp on the tape. The wires shouldn't be that thick if you are using small diodes as they can only handle so much current.
