I have a 2001 Pontiac Grand Am GT with the monsoon sound system. I am installing a Sony MP3 HU and a 4 Channel amp. I removed the factory amp from the trunk and ran all new wires. Now the power locks unlock but not lock, and the remote keyless entry does not work at all (unlock/lock/trunk/panic). I don't think it had anything to do with removing the amp... So what should I check?
I am at a loss. Any help?

Not familiar with the Monsson systems in the Pontiac's but have you tried re-installing the OEM amp to see if the keyless works afterwards ?

i beleive thats the radio like the new cavaleirs where you have to keep the factory radio in the car somewhere. Does the old radio have an LED mounted in it for the keyless entry if so the you have to keep the radio wired to the car . it requires a speacial wiring kit

I have the "special" wire harness to mount the factory deck to the trunk. However, Im not convinced yet that it could have anything to do with the sound system. After my initial post my friend reminded me that after the car was ripped apart, I was crawling into the trunk to figure out which wires were which, and the PANIC button went off in my pocket.
Everything was out at that point. So there must be another issue. At this point I am hoping that someone knows something about the powerlocks system or the location of the keyless entry reciever.

I am no expert on GM audio systems, but I have had heard on more than one occasion that factory secuirty systems are often wired through the premium audio systems, I think this is typically done to reduce cost of the so-called "premium audio systems". I am not sure if GM does this but I have heard that Honda does it. My guess is that your problem will be traced back to some connection with the factory amp.
Good Luck

GM runs the power door locks and all the other goodies through the OEM radio. You can buy an aftermarket modulator to hook up and will allow you to use the power door locks, keyless entry, etc.... But without it or your OEM headunit it will not work.
Fuses, Fuses, Fuses!
Start with the basics. Check fuses in the fusebox under the dash as well as the fuse panel under the front hood of the car. The door locks are controlled by the Body Control Module (BCM) which in the pontiacs is typically located under the drivers-side dash. Do you still have the door chimes when you leave the keys in the ignition with the doors open or the headlights on?? Also realize on that car that when you replace the factory head unit with an aftermarket you will have to run your own Accessory +12volt wire, DO NOT use the wire in the accessory spot on your harness adapter because this wire is a data control wire. Yes Metra makes a harness adapter for this application it is a 70-2003T and it requires you to run your own accessory wire for power to your aftermarket head unit. The fact that the locks are not working have nothing to do with the factory radio being gone Note that you will lose the factory door chimes when you pull the factory radio out, but you can restore them by purchasing the optional door chime module that Metra sells to work with the above harness adapter. What you should be concerned about is that you disconnect your radio that you have installed from the databus wire that you are currently and mistakenly tied in to....and hope that you did not damage your vehicle computer in the process. Go get yourself a 70-2003T (or comparable) harness and follow the instructions carefully, this WILL require you to relocated the factory radio to the trunk of the vehicle or somewhere nearby, and thus keep it tied into the vehicle computer system....eliminating the chance of having any warning lights or "dummy-lights" come on unexpectedly, GM has a service bulletin published covering this very subject matter of possible faults that can occur if the factory radio is not installed. I guess they never considered that Delco radios as do GM cars do have a tendency to break down from time to time....Another GM engineering flaw, way to go guys!
