A customer brought me a 1997 Ford Explorer with the premium stereo package. His "Installer" friend cut off both plugs and tossed them in the trash (told friend he could save him a few bucks). I have the power leads figured out, but, I haven't tried the speaker wires yet. Does anybody have the wire colors for this type of setup? Thanks in advance

Your better bet might be to bypass the amp that is hidden behind the rear pass. quarter panel. You can find the actual speaker wires in the harness at the hidden amp.

...if you'd like to pull that panel off..... it is a pain in the *buttocks* because of its sheer size. What color wires are you seeing? if they're the same as a first gen explorer, then I can try and dig up the right sequences....I have them hiding someplace in my filecabinet....since i destroyed my plug a few years ago....
here's a question for you....are you just going to hardwire the stereo, or did you actually find the factory plug. If you found the plug, where did you find it??!!?!!?!? I need one incase i decide to go back to stock (for selling purposes)

I just did that vehicle today. There is a plug at the bottom of the b piller on the passanger side. All the speaker wires are there. You can just cut the plug in and run wires from there to the head units harness, no problems, quick and easy and not stupid clips to break. Took me a total of like 20 minutes.

btw, the above wire colors are at the plug so you can just follow that diagram if you go to the pilar. I assume they are the same at the amp but that is a lot more work and quite unnesasary
