I have the basics about power and grounding, but don't know where to wire power (red) to. Any suggestions from the experts? Where do I connect? Fuse box or where?

Thx.

What are you wiring up? For radios I usually look for an acc spot in the fuse box. Lots of times I find an open one.

problem with new land rover/cruiser is alot of things are negative.

so for amps your best bet is to connect power to the battery terminalamd and fuse in a good location close to the battery. ground less than 18 inches away from amps or as short as possible. to a clean metal serface and use a wire brush to remove serface of paint. preferable under carpet so if you remote equipment you will not see marking.
also for amps dont run power and rca cables on the same side of the car from front to back this causes engine noise.

mecp certification is not always needed. I have it and it has not helped me out at all. my experience out shines it.

I am installing a 7" flip down LCD and a DVD player as the entertainment system in a 2003 Rover Discovery. The wiring diagram only states "Red Wire +12V". I know I am suppose to get power from a power source like an open slot in the fuse box, but what if there aren't any open slots? Can I just pig-tail it to the Radio Fuse? Meaning, pull the fuse, insert the wire and compress with the fuse. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thx.

I have done that before with no problems but, I always try to find an open spot in the fuse box. Most of the time when doing a radio you can just use what the factory already provided. If you need a constant 12 volts then you dont wanna use the radio fuse. Usually red is switched but all you say it says is +12 volts so you may wanna doublecheck.

In that situation you may over draw on current. Run a wire from the battery and be sure to fuse it at least 6" from the battery. If the DVD player is trying to draw more than the spot in the fuse block can handle the wires can get very hot and eventually catch on fire causing some damage. Trust me customers brought there vehicle to me before for this reason. They tried doing it themselves to save a little money but it costed alot more at the end.
