Ok this is very weird. I installed 15" subs with a 1000 watt amp. Everything seemed to work fine. I split off the power cable into a toggle switch so i could turn the amp on an off when I wanted to. When the car was off everything worked good. Then I ran all the wires and installed my cd player in the dash, I went to go move my car and tried the toggle switch and the amp when on and the radio was fine. However when I turned on a cd I got no sound from any of my speakers. So I got sound from the radio but not the cd player. So today I was driving and when I hit a few bumps the radio was cutting in an out. So I decided to take out my subs and amp. When I did I tried my cd player i still got no sound. When I tried the radio that didnt work either. So I am getting no sound from anything. However the head unit works fine. Powers up and you can see the graph moving as if there is sound coming from the speakers but there isn't. Any suggestions? I looked at all the fuses and wires and everything seems to be ok. First, this is not a good idea and possibly a fire hazzard if the switch isn't rated to handle the current the amp is pulling. For the most part aftermarket radios will have a remote turn on lead that will turn the amplifier on and off. If you want to have a switch to turn the amp off then this would be the wire to use with the switch. As far as your radio is concerned, there is probably an internal problem if you experiencing sporadic sound on the cd when you hit bumps but no sound at any other time. Without looking at the car this is hard to diagnose.

Why would you want to connect it to a Toggle Switch? Just run the remote wire and have it work right.
well iwill say the same thing why would u have a toggle switch instead of using the remote turn on frm the radio that wire is blue n white by the way is the radio u have is a alpine?
What kind of vehicle do you have? On some jeeps you need to connect the amp turn on wire to switched power in order to get sound from the head unit when trying to play a CD. Also, if you get no sound at all, then check to see if you have any blown speakers or speaker wires that are grounding out. Most newer aftermarket radios come equipped with a safety shut down when a speaker is blown to protect the amp.
Okay here's the deal. If you want to run a toggle switch, connect it your remote turn on wire, not your main power wire. If you want to kill the main power, you can buy a circuit breaker. As far as playing a cd and loosing power, you have connected the wrong wire as your remote. You connected the power antenna wire which is blue and as soon as you play a cd, your radio kills the power to the power antenna. You need to connect the blue/white wire to the remote turn-on of your amp.
