I recently purchased a 2001 Toyota Tacoma with the factory radio/cassette deck (gimme a break, I just bought it). Everything is bone stock. It has two speakers in the doors + two factory tweets just above them in the door panels. The system has never been modified in any way to the best of my knowledge, the only possibility is that the head unit may have been put back in before I purchased it.
The problem 
: When the cassette player is running I hear a distinct hum that corresponds with the RPM's of the engine. I am guessing its alternator whine. The noise is ONLY present on the RIGHT speaker. I'm dumbfounded. HELP! I might have to take it to the dealer to get the HU replaced, but if its something simple I'd like to avoid doing that.
Also, I am considering working for a large electronics company's "Road Shop" as an installer. I was wondering if anyone can fill me in on what to expect as far as pay and training (I worked as an auto tech, but not in sound). Does MECP certification help? I've passed ASE exams, what can I expect with the MECP tests?
Last one, I know the Tacoma regular cab is pretty limited on sound upgrades, but I'd like to add another set of speakers and replace the head unit eventually. Any suggestions? And the big question...where do I put the subs, and how big a sub(s) can I fit?

Hey Michael,
Road Shop huh? Sounds like Circuit City to me. I used to work for them as an installer many years ago. I guess it all depends on the area that you are in really but the more that you have as far as MECP and all that it sure will help you as far as working for a electronics giant. They are pretty strict about uniforms. Collar shirt and dress pants(black) They pretty much solder every connection. Unless they changed their policy. They have nice bays usually at least 3 bays. Pay wise depends on your experience. You will be under a lead installer for a little while until they feel that you are comfortable working by yourself. Tip, learn as much as you can about alarms they do plenty there. This site is great about everything. You will learn alot from alot of different members here.
