I hard one of these in my car and now when I use it it only beeps once when a radar is detected. It use to beep rapidly when I was close, and slower when I was further away. Do I need to do something special for this application?

you hard one of them? Do you mean hard wired? If that's it, you need the special smart cord hard wire kit. If not, then I don't know what you meant.
