How do you do this? What kind of mesurment is it?

Put your meter on AC volts. Black lead to ground, red lead to the wire. Should read close to nothing when the car isn't moving. With tire rotation you should start to read anywhere from 1 - 5 volts and it should rise and fall the faster/slower you go.

I have found that if you use a normal test light, Put the clamp end to a 12 volt wire and use the probe end to locate the wire.If you move the car forward it will light up and go out as you move the car, (only if you have a general idea where to look for the wire.)

another way is to use the setting of frequency on some of the craftsman meters and testthe same way.

the frequency setting is sometimes easier depending on what type of signal the car has. and weather its a square wave or sine wave.

can you always pick up the vss from the obd port if so what meter  would i need
