I am installing the Pioneer DEH-P3500 cd receiver into my girlfriend's 1999 Olds Cutlass. I finally found the correct wiring harness. On the harness there is a red (12v ignition/acc.) wire. But on the harness IN the car, there isn't a red wire. A friend of mine connected the 2 yellow (12v battery/memory) and the red power wire together, and it fried a fuse.
So I am wondering what i have to do to install this radio... To atleast get power to the receiver. So my girlfriend can finally have a radio again... Do I need to run a power wire from the stock wire harness to the wire harness adapter?
Please help, I've done many installations, But have never ran into this many problems!!!
Thanks, Johnny
Use a digital volt meter to recheck your wiring. The yellow wire in the Pioneer harness goes to the orange wire in the car (Battery power). There are two yellow wires in the car's harness. One is the left rear speaker negative and the other is the ignition 12 volt + to the radio. Check to see if you have power on both of these wires (Yellow ignition and orange battery). If you do then hook the Pioneer red wire to the 12 volt yellow wire in the car's harness. There is also two grey wires. One is the dash illumination 12 volt wire and the other is the left front speaker negative wire.

Sparky, In the pioneer wire harness there wasn't a red wire. I took it to a friend who does installs and he jammed a power wire into the harness and it worked. But this morning (since i can't find a mounting kit for a 99 cutlass) i had to put my girlfriend's dash back together. And had to take off the old dash kit, and metal sleeve to get it to fit into her dash until i either find a dash kit that doesn't cost 30 bucks, or fab my own. Well, the power wire came out and undone. No fuses were fried, but the cd player isn't working. I also have a compact disc in the cd player still. So in a little bit we're going back over to my friends to try and fix this little problem. I hope the cd players isn't fried, it doesn't smell like fried electronics. So we'll see...
