Just had the Pioneer AVIC-N1 installed in a 2002 Chevy Tahoe LS. The Dash kit the installer used looks horrible, it sticks out about 2 inches from the dash. I really wanted it to be as close to flush as possible. The kit has a slot under the radio and looks good with the exception of how far out it is. Can anyone suggest any type of different kit or installation.
Cut the support in the back with a dremel or air tool so that the deck goes all the way back.

i've done a few avic-b1's & they themselves stick out about an 1 or 2 from the front of their body.
never had a depth problem with a tahoe or gm truck of any kind
always use the Metra 99-3002 kit or make my own
i used a metra kit in my 01 tahoe for an in dash clarion tv in the stock radio place and installed my h.u. in the spot where the tape player originally went. that way i was able to completely flush the radio in and got rid of the tape player that i didnt use anymore. just a suggestion.
I don't know if this will help...but I installed my AVIC-N1 and it also stuck out a lot and it looked ugly. I found this kit on the pioneer website that let's you install the AVIC-N1 a little more recessed into the dash (if there's room...it says about 10mm). Here's the link to it... it's the AD-GA10..

Before I had a chance to buy the kit and install it I rear-ended someone on the freeway. The screeen was in (thank God) and the force pushed the whole unit inside the dash. It looks a lot better now (and still works fine)! Anyway there's that kit if you used the mounting bracket to install the unit. Check it out!
I guess I should figure out if the AVIC-N1 is safe like that in the dash...
