I am trying to track down a tool that an installer of mine used to have, I thought he got it from snap-on, but anyways, its a voltage probe, that you plug into a cig lighter, and it has two lights, red and green, you dont have to switch it to probe from + to ground, it does it automatically, I want to say its name was "the probe" but I am having no luck finding it. I think it was in a black hard case, and was about 80 bucks or so?

anyone know what I am talking about and a link to where I can find one?

the tool you are looking for is the power probe II. It can either plug into a cig lighter or  use clips to attach directly to battery. it tests for power and ground with the traditional RED / green light and with the use of the rocker switch you can send power or ground and has an extra clip thats a dedicated ground. this is very handy when trying to bench test a radio. you can get it from Matco tools or possibly Mac if they still carry it. it costs between 80 and 100.

I got one, the Power Probe II.  I got mine from Mac, but my Snap On guy has them too.  I'm pretty sure all 3 carry them, Mac, Snap On, and Matco.

I just saw one in the Northern Tools catalog.

I'm not sure if it has the switch, but even if it doesn't, it's not hard to add that feature and it only costs $30, plugs into the cig lighter too.  On that note, why not just buy the $20 with aligator clips and splice a cig plug on it? One of those plugs is a whole $5 at NAPA or probably free if you hang around an install bay long enough.
