This is my first post here, so forgive me if this question has been asked and answered. I looked around first, but I couldn't find a thread pertaining to this.
I need to locate a wire behind or under the dash of my 2004 2500HD that will power an accessory light and will dim when the rest of my cluster dims. I tested about seven wires from behind the dimmer switch, but had no luck. I would say there are probably another twenty wires that I haven't tested coming from the dimmer. I didn't want to cut every wire to find out that none of them worked, so that is how I found my way here, to this forum.
Please tell me there is one wire that is easy to get to.
Thanks,
Bruce
I dont know which Wire it is...But to find it....
1.)Look online for a wiring Diagram for you truck....Go to autoparts house and see if they can pull wiring diagram...
2.)You dont have to cut the wires....Just get a voltmeter and some Straight Pins...Turn the lights on take the straight pins and push them into the wire to make your connection and then hook the voltmeter to them..Make sure its grounded good..Then start turning the dimmer switch and watch for the voltage drop...When you find that all you have to do is splice that wire and Bingo you have it...I would start at the wires that are directly hooked to the switch or the wires that are hooked to the lights themselves...

Great suggestion using the pin - thanks! Do you have a link for Autoparts House?
Go to like Advanced Auto...Napa....Autozone somewhere...They should have access to the wiring diagram....
Or just search online for it...
