i guess it would kinda be like a computer controlled switch

Can you write C code? A PIC Microcontroller would allow that.... Little time and effort, and some skill EE would help.

What are you trying to accomplish? Using a PIC would involve some time and money. Give me more details, and I can probably come up with a more viable solution.

hmm...I think he's thinking about maybe controlling a bunch of functions from a computer...like power windows, AC, door locks, etc etc.

Maybe this is a dumb question, but Why?

Why use a computer to do what a simple switch can just as easy? Unless you want MS Windows in your car, and are doing GPS and video playback. You want to use Ethernet, too? Not sure what the point would be.

I would suggest keeping the system SEPARATE from your vehicle's electrical system.

Mapping out an entire video is easy, you seem to know the components you want. Then all you really need to interface to the vehicle is an FM Mod for the sound to come through the speakers.

Just a thought.

It's going to be expensive. How much are you looking to spend? Basically your looking at custom programming to build the interface, An EPROM, Something to write to that EPROM, Amplification circuitry to be able to handle the excessive load of an electric motor large enough to do anything, and the motor itself. I would ballpark that withough prior knowledge or equipment your looking in excess of several hundred dollars just to get going.

go to www.mp3car.com, the guys over there do this stuff all the time, there are tons of programs that do all that you are talking about plus monitor obdII and some are even voice controlled.  go ask them about your best options over there and they can set you up right
