I finally took time to get my basic MECP certification, now I'm studying the first class book. That test was priddy easy after being in the field for three years professionally LOL I'm thinking about ASE as well, even though I have no intensions of becoming a mechanic. I've read on this site and in magazines that it is a plus as well as MECP.
Is it really worth it, and what area/areas of ase testing should I study for and take??
there are a ton of different areas that you can test in from what I've seen playing around on the internet

ELECTRONICS RUN OFF OF SMOKE, WHEN YOU LET THE SMOKE OUT THEY STOP WORKING
Study all of them, Get as much education and degree. You'll never know which of those degree will help you build a career for the rest of you nub life. ^_^
Knowledge is power
For the purposes of certification...study what's in the book.
What if you need a job and they aren't looking for stereo installers, but there is a demand for auto electric technicians?
Myself being a Master Certified Technician, I think it's a good idea to have a couple of ASE certs. Electrical being the most important, with the car manufacturers starting to sell hybrids. If you can get your employer to pay for the test, that would also be a plus.
