does anybody know the location of the tach wire in a 2005 diesel? It is not the same as 2004. Any help appreciated.

It is the same as the 04, GREEN / WHITE under the dash taped to a harness. The difference is the signal on that wire is lower and you will need a tach booster module if you want to use that wire.
On the 6.0 diesel, alternative tach source is the crankshaft sensor @ the underhood PCM. Remove the battery terminals and plastic cover from the battery on the DRIVER side of the engine bay to reveal the PCM next to the battery on the fenderwell. There will be 3 plugs at the PCM you want the GRAY wire in the center plug. I believe it is the only plain gray wire in the plug (watch out for gray/blacks) and I believe it is taped in a harness of its own (within the main harness) with a black wire, orange wire, and red wire. The wire will read about 1 - 1.5 volts ac at idle, and rise to 2+ volts ac when revving the engine. Good luck,
Mike
