your talking about the yellow one right the one that sits in a charger ? i don't see why not according to it's specs. But the ? is how convinient is it are you a profesional installer that uses it all day .are you steady in one location at all times that u can keep the charger plugged in it at all times or are u a traveling installer that keeps it on a power supply in your vehicle ,another thing i noticed it doesn't say anything about being able to adjust the temp. range.If your not going to use it often go for it. I personaly use a butane powered one made by blue point with adjustable heat range it also comes with a torch,hot knife,and heat shrink tip with are constantly used.... And yeah it would solder 2 12-14 gauge wires together! ------------- AudioPro111

I personaly use a butane powered one made by blue point with adjustable heat range my friend, do you have a link to give out for this blue point butane soldering tool you use, on the web? was curious as to what it looked like and its price. thanks, Brian.

yeah u can get it at snap-on.com they have just the butane soldering iron or the full kit buane soldering iron it ranges from about 40 to 100.oo dollars.

I just want to use it for the occasional remote starter install. But I mainly want it for work where I have a lot of machines to take care of, and no outlets close by. I hate dragging the extension cord and then have to wait for the iron to heat up. I could use a soldering gun (the 100/140 watt) but I will still have to drag the cord.

OK, how many of you have wanted to kill your Snap-On butane solering iron because she just won't heat up. Is it the type of butane that you use or is it just a smelly POS? I've gone through 3 of these things and just now I have been informed that I must use this type of butane (conveniently sold by my Snap-On dude). ------------- Top Secret, I can tell you but then my wife will kill me.

I use only ronson butane. I have used cheap cans before and it clogged the soldering iron, I guess it isn't filtered as well. First one lasted a year, second one is going on 2+ years.

u don't have to use a specific type of butane for snap-on just that the ceramic under the soldering tip gets dirty so it doesn't allways turn on so just use a small awl and scrape the ceramic a little to clean it out and it will work like new again........but ronson is my favorite......

I just purchased another unit from Weller, it is almost the exact one from Snap-On. The only difference I know of is the lack of 3 more soldering tips.
I have shopped around the entire Internet, and this is by far the best price $59.99 USD, I have ever seen for the kit.

If you want some Ronson butane, I can get them for $3.49 CDN, $3.98 with tax's.

I got mine from matco and it cost me 110 bucks and it sucks. Ive gone through alot of tips and i always clean them off after im done using them. Yes they do come with a warranty but the tip does not!!!!

I use a Weller Portosol. It works great for me. Once you lose the cord, you never go back!!!
