Subject: what is navacomm?

when i took my dash apart to install a remote start kit, i found a clear-black, plastic box with a blinking LED light and a few cables coming out of it. (one marked GPS) there's a decent sized, external battery connected to it, and a relay wired in. the box has Navacomm and some number or something on it. My brother in law says it's so if i don't make my payment, they can shut my truck off and find it. but he only half knows what he's talking about most of the time. ?????????? ------------- -idiot

Sounds about right. There was another thread about one of these a while ago, you may or may not be able to find it.

Well, I'm wondering if I can just take it off or what? My brother-in-law told me that I could unhook the battery cables and disconnect the unit then replace the cables and it would probably be ok. But he says don't try removing it with the cables on or it will lock the truck down and I won't be able to drive it. What's your take on that? I'm not familiar with this type of thing at all...but it seems like if there's a way to put it in, there's surely a way to take it out... right?

If it is one of those things that they put in your car so if you dont make a payment on it or something they can shut it down. Check into it first to find out if it is one of them. That if you or who ever still paying on the car. you dont want to take it out while the car not yours and then you screew up the agrement then you dont have a car no more, due to that that own it. if the car paid off contact the Navacomm or who ever they are and ask them how to take it out. Just look into it all first before you just take it out, if it is indeed waht it may be, you can really screew yourself. beter be safe then sorry.

seems pretty shady to me that they put it in my truck, and didn't even tell me. i thought that's what they paid repo men for anyway...:) yeah, i'm still paying on the truck. i don't plan on having it forever though. so i guess if they ever do me dirty i could just tear it all out and say i never knew there was anything in there and let them sort the mess out with it. i don't know, it just seems really stupid to me.
