I tried taking my PS2 apart and I can almost get the shell apart when all these ribbon cables just prevent it from going any further... Does anyone have experience with this type of customer request? I mean for an install where you would disassemble a PS2 and install it into a dash or a trunk with just the door tray showing and relocate the power and eject buttons somewhere else.??? Can anyone help me? I'm thinking of doing this for a winter project... I'd be willing to attempt it if someone can give me an idea how to get this thing apart... If not then i'll have to wait 'till the slim line PS2's come out....

I have never known anyone disassemble a ps2 to install it. Have only seen complete ps2's used, even in cases where you can only see the parts required. Sorry couldn;'t be any help!

I have done this same thing....The tray came out right under the CD player where the EQ hole is...The Controller plugins where in the center console behind the gear shifter....and the power buttons were mounted near the CD tray...I just took the ribbon cables loose and extended them to where I needed them with small wires...(I couldnt find anywhere to buy ribbon cable....) If you can find ribbon cable just make one to fit and to length and connect everything....

It took awhile to make it all work but was pretty sweet when it did....

The slim PS2s are out now BTW

I have seen many installs where all the pieces are in multiple pieces. I have taken the PS2 apart for a regulated power supply, and it was quite easy. I have made extension cables for controller ports and mulit-taps. It all matters on how many tools you have at your displosal. I work in a lab where we have all types of soldering irons, magnifing glass, shrink tubes, and many other soldering equipment. It makes my electronics modifications much easier.

I think the switches can easily be located anwhere you want. The wire guage is multi-strand 24AWG if I remember correctly.

I may be able to help with the physical connections and extending, please PM me if you want.

Well Man The Slim Line PS2 Are Out On The Market Now That Would Probably Be The Best Way To Go About It .

Walmart Has Them And They Are The Same Price As The Original Ones.

the only thing abou tthe new slim line is it doesnt have the motorized draw. it pops up on top like the portable radios that have the cd plyers built in on top of it
thats the only thing i dont like about it. besides that the ting is super smal my friend just picked it up for $150

Yes, the top loading tray makes thing slightly difficult.

I guess you could mold the unit into a raised portion of your dash....

alright, I have access to 24 awg wire... I have a friend who does cat 5 wire for phones and stuff and I am sure I can get a few different colors of fine strand wire from him. Now I just need to get the ps2 apart? did anyone take any pictures if they did it? If I do get it apart, do I just cut the ribbon wire, seperate it them and solder onto that? I work for a shop so we have some smaller basic soldering equiptment but nothing like maybe a major electronics company would have

Don't use cat5e cable, get stranded wire, it is much easier to work with and more flexible.
