anyone hear of hiding the valentine(main unt) behind a dash?   i think it is a stupid idea and besides the fact that a radar detector was never desiged for this application.. my co worker swears he has seen it done and it works , i think it may work with diminished range of radar and almost little to no sensitivity , besides a false hope to the customer what do u guys think??

FWIW: I remember many yrs ago a buddy doing somethng similiar but he gutted the detector mounting the faceplate in the dash somewhere then placing the antenna somewhere behind the front grill. Maybe thats what he meant?

no he meant the radar unit itself the glass mounted part. and using the add on display on the dash for the user to see!!! its a stupid idea because of all the metal and the plastic blocking both front and rear sensors. As i understand it the unit should be able to see through glass windows of the car in front of you to catch a farther radar being shot toward you (says valentine"s sight) . Recomended location is high in windshield or visor thats it!! Nothing statesd being able to see through plastic or metal..the k40 undetectable is desighne d to see through plastic within a few inches with that said even if valentine was the same desighn we are talking feet behind the dash and it would be mostly metal(radar can make it through a steel motor?? lol) i am only posting this for opinions and hopefuly this coworker of mine can read this post and hear from others besides me.

I dont know much, but i can almost bet anything that embedding it into the dash will stop the radar detector from working at all. but if he wants to try it without waisting alot of time, stick the detector in the clovebox (opened so you can hear it) and drive around. sheer physics of radar will keep it from working. radar is meant to bounce off your metal body of the car. but try the glove box thing, but hey, ya never know

hey, everyone has got to start somewhere. but ill learn

Not seen that one but there are ones that you mount the MAIN unit in the dash or were ever you want. The antennas are mount eles were.
Just for some info on radar dectors.

The Valentine 1 radar, is the best radar that i seen. Me and 2 freinds tested them out, along wiht Del, Escort, and Uniden. This test was done with a few freinds form the sheriff office. Aslo test was only done with the KA band, we wanted to test it out with others but they were not avaailable at the time.
How the test got started out was when i was doing ride alongs with the S.O. Asking how it works and how well do radar dectors work.
All i can say they do and they dotn work. You going to have to take your own judgement on this. But if any of you have a freinds that are cops, ask them see if you can do a few test. i though radar dectors were the best things to have so you can speed. Now i dont even own own.
Both me and my 2 freinds all had the same outcome and opions weatehr they work or not. If the officer is trying to get speeders and is using his "hold" button. Which is a on and off switch. he GOT YA you dotn have tiem to slow down. even at 1/2 mile away. When more and more cars are around it does make the radar have multi readings. after talking with the cops on this part of the test, with multi cars the person can beat most the tickets. they say its about 50-50 chance on wining. Now with hand held radars he can pick out a certin car and not have to worrie about multi readings. and the rate of the people wining in court is slim.
the only time dectors works. this is if you not way over the limint say no more then 15. That if the cop is not really looking for speeders and is driving around and his radar is ON.
They ( S.O.) suposed to do a calibration on they radar every day, this is done with tuneing forks, and doen by the officer. With one of our cop freinds his attitude was
"he tere to write tickets" and if they want to fight it in court that is tere right. He mention our court system change they way they handle going to court. mostly due to the fact that most officer dont liek to show up. So now there a hering to see if they want to plead guilty or not so they can figure out whne the office can come.

I liek to do a test with tese radar jammers i heard about the legle one and the ilegle ones.
