Has anyone seen this before? I have a Ford F250LD 4x4 with the 5.4 Liter Triton, and when cold, I turn the key and crank the engine the temperature gauge jumps to the overheat mark and bounces. The bounces are slight and remain with in the overheated range of the meter.

After the engine starts the temp gauge return to the cold position, then after a few minutes it jumps straight into over heated range (pinned) and remains there until I turn the engine off.

I believe these gauges are controlled by the computer, is this a premature sign that the computer is about to STB?

Any Help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

What year is the truck? The temp guage still needs a sending unit somewhere on the engine. (usually intake or water neck) It sounds like a typical sending unit problem..
